Days out from Oswestry - Bala
|
| Many old manuscripts show a likeness of Welsh freedom fighters with only
one shoe, the other foot bare. Yesterday we proved that this is the best
way of negotiating the precipituous, treacherous mountain paths around the
Bala Pass.
The Welshmen, of ancient times, considered it a great honour and privilege rather than an obligation to follow their much loved princes into battle against the invaders of their country. Thus they used the rough terrain. Thus they used cunning and agility to outwit the wealthier and more heavily armoured invaders. They ranged amongst the waist high bracken, the rush strewn boggy mountains, and over harsh and dangerous rocky places. Here you can follow Llywelyn and his "bare foot scrubs" as they were called. |
